It has been a year since the dedication of the Royal Jubilee Bells at St James Garlickhythe, and during that year we have managed to put a band together to the extent of forming our own Guild, the Garlickhythe Guild of Change Ringers. This is the first new band of ringers in the City of London for some considerable time and it practices every Thursday at 6:30pm. The new ringers can now ring a minimum of Plain Hunt, which is a great achievement in its own right, along with only breaking two stays in that time. Some members of the Guild have rung their first quarter peals, and so congratulations go to them. We have rung for four major Sunday Services along with ringing half-muffled for Margaret Thatcher’s funeral procession.
The Guild has an active social life and has had an annual dinner, which was a great success. We have had many visitors from various parts of the UK as well as overseas visitors from as far as USA and Australia.
None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication and expertise of Dickon Love, for which the Guild is extremely grateful, and for all those other experienced ringers who support each week. Thank you for your patience.
Going forward, we hope to ring for more regular services and we are also planning a tower outing along with the Annual Dinner.
